Who Is Your Target Audience?

Your target audience demographic will be a mix of your existing customer base, perspective or lingering customers, and personas that you’ve created.

Explore your social media channels, your website data, and see what story your audience tells. What are their similarities? What behaviors are they showing on the back-end of your website? Are they giving you feedback and if so, are you listening?

Why Your Target Audience Matters

If you want to market effectively and get the best Return On Investment (ROI) then knowing who to market to is a prime indicator of how successful your marketing will be. Knowing who your customers are can help create campaigns that relate to your customers which increases engagement and buying power.

How To Find Your Target Audience

If you’ve been in business for a while then first go to your social media pages and gather insight on your followers. Who are they? Male or female? and what is their age group? What content are they interacting with? When are they online?

Don’t ignore the insights from your website. Use this data to explore the behaviors of your audience. What pages are most active? When do they buy, or when do they opt out? It also helps to link your social pages and website pages to Google Analytics to gain additional in-depth data of your customers.

Customer Persona

Creating a customer persona will also help your marketing efforts. A customer persona is a self-made audience you have created that most resonates with your business. This developed character can be one person or type of person or group. You segment this audience by generating the facts, characteristics and buying power of this said person to better serve their needs.

Just like your business strategy helps you keep your business goals on-track, your target audience does the same with your marketing. You can generate many great marketing campaigns and ideas, but if you’re not creating them with your customer in mind, you won’t find success in your efforts.
